Text Box: Hythe Rotary Makes A Difference

Hythe & Waterside Rotary has played a significant role in helping a tearaway teenager turn her life around and become a Youth Leader in her local community.
Crystle (24) was thrown out of school at 15 with no qualifications, after becoming heavily involved in alcohol and drugs. At 16 she was a teenage mum with no means of caring for her children adequately. Youth workers from the community tried everything to get Crystle on the straight and narrow, but it was not until she was asked by one of them to go back into her former school to talk to pupils about the difficulties of being a teenage mum that she realised that she could make a real difference by getting involved in youth work. After many hours of voluntary work and becoming involved with The Prince’s Trust ‘Get Into Youth Work’ scheme, Crystle decided to go for a Diploma in Youth Work, but funding was a problem – until Hythe & Waterside Rotary stepped in and made a donation towards her training.
Crystle’s life-changing progress has resulted in her being named The Prince’s Trust Young Achiever of the Year for London and the South East, and going forward to the National Finals.
Hythe & Waterside Rotary is proud to have been able to assist this remarkable young person in making a real difference to her own and the lives of others.
