Applemore
Amphitheatre
Applemore College’s new
outdoor amphitheatre, which was financially supported by Hythe Rotary Club,
was officially opened on 8th July 2009 by Cllr Brian Dash.
At the opening ceremony, Applemore’s headteacher, Ian Coombs,
paid tribute to all those who had helped bring the exciting project to
fruition, and particularly thanked those who had funded the construction,
including Applemore PTA, Cllr Brian Dash, Dibden Allotments Charity,
ExxonMobil, The Peter Barker-Mills Memorial Charity, and The Rotary Club of
Hythe & District. An engraved plaque bearing all these names has been
placed on the side of the amphitheatre structure.
As well as students at Applemore benefiting from use of the
amphitheatre for drama and music performances and presentations, there are
plans for it to be made available for community groups to use.
After the official
ribbon-cutting ceremony, two sets of students from Applemore entertained
guests with performances – one an amusing version of the tale of The Three
Little Pigs and, by contrast, the other the story of Oedipus played out in
the classic Greek tragedy style. These performances ably demonstrated the
benefit of the amphitheatre and the quality of the acoustics it provides.
