Auction
A Charity Auction and Buffet, organised by Hythe & District
Rotary Club, was given an extra ‘twist’ with entertainment provided by
local rock ‘n’ roll band The Trojans, and Johara Dance, a group of exotic
belly dancers!
During an interval in the bidding, the Eastern dancers
demonstrated some traditional moves and encouraged audience participation.
The band, during their sets, played some lively hip-swaying numbers mainly
from the 50’s and 60’s, which soon had people rocking and rolling.
The auction itself comprised a traditional hammer auction
expertly run by Rotarian Tim Parsons, and a silent auction co-ordinated
with computer expertise by Rotarian Ray Lewis. Lots up for auction were
many and varied – everything from a week in a French holiday home to a load
of manure! Bids were also taken for a variety of boat trips; meals in local
pubs; an opportunity to have your family history traced; a horse and
carriage ride; a bird-watching trip; a session on a flight simulator;
tickets to local visitor attractions; a golf lesson; computer tuition; a
signed Saints’ shirt; a dinner party; a jewellery valuation; and many other
attractive and unusual lots.
The successful and enjoyable evening,
which was co-ordinated by Rotarian Bob Moseley, raised around £2200 for
charities supported by Hythe Rotary Club
