Foundation Dinner
What a splendid evening. A sumptuous meal in an historic
setting, in the company of your friends, and with 3 excellent after dinner
speakers – and all for just £18.00. (Compare and contrast this with other
venues you frequent).
As always, the ladies, ably assisted by Joel, did us proud and
produced a superb 4-course meal. This takes a lot of work and effort,
especially in the preparation, and they attacked the vegetables with a
will, and having sorted out Dave, Ralph, Derek, Bob, Trevor and yours
truly, they peeled and washed the carrots and leeks. (Come on, you knew
that was coming!). On behalf of the Club, my thanks to Jan, Jenny, the 2
Maureen’s, Sue and Susan.
My thanks also to Lord and Lady Montagu for their generosity
and support in allowing us to use The Domus without charge. It is a truly
unique venue and we are extremely lucky to be able to hold our annual
dinner in such a glorious building.
Lee Fryett and Kathy Nicholson Banks were very good ambassadors
for the Group Study Exchange scheme and demonstrated that it can be a
memorable and productive project in which to participate. There was no
doubting that both of them gained from their experiences across the pond
and I’m sure that our colonial cousins also gained from meeting them. It is
also very possible that Rotary will gain a couple of enthusiastic new
members in a few years time.
